Muted Screams: The Untold Stories of the Filipino Comfort Women
With strong historical social awareness, youth duo Jacob Rafael Chuavon and Jason Redick created a 10-minute historical documentary on Filipino comfort women in fulfillment of their history project for their 8th Grade social studies course at the Singapore American School.
Young Filipno Jacob Chuavon had strong interest in historical research in Philippine history to gain more connection to his roots and heritage. In choosing a topic, Jacob and his project partner Jason, were interested in World War 2 events, one of which was the plight of the Filipino comfort women.
The youths worked on in-depth historical research and documentation to put together a 10-minute video documentary as entry to The National History Day contest at the University of Maryland, USA.
Jacob travelled to the Philippines to interview key people in the organization involved in the welfare and rights of Filipino comfort women, namely, the Lila Pilipina organization. In this trip, Jacob had the privilege of interviewing one of the living Filipino comfort women, Lola Estelita Dy.
